That is really interesting, I usually assume most folks start with the Am. Beauty/Workingmans's stuff and expand from there, but you dove head first into the deep end!

Well, I would then recommend sticking with very clean versions of the bands 4-6 min. range tunes. I just don't see this chick getting into 25-30 min. Dark Stars right away, lol

edit - if you ARE interested in the studio stuff, I recommend the following: American Beauty and Workingmans' Dead, of course. Then move on to Wake of the Flood and Blues for Allah. Possibly From the Mars Hotel too, but that album isn't quite on the level of those first 4. If you're interested in the weird stuff from the early years, Aoxomoxoa, and Anthem of the Sun are classic

Yeah - aside from a few greatest hits, I don't think I would have known any other Dead songs until 1995. I was working in a summer camp and spending a lot of time on the pottery wheel... the pottery instructor listened to nothing but Europe 72 all summer and I must have heard it 50+ times within about 6 weeks. That was my real start.

Jerry died later that summer.
